Summary: Accessing your Yahoo email through a third-party app can be risky because Yahoo might block the connection. Some third-party email apps do not use Yahoo’s official sign-in page. As a result, you cannot access your email account from such apps, and your email and password fail. To resolve this, you need to create a special app password that allows these apps to access your Yahoo account. One such secure application is the Yahoo Backup Tool, which requires an app password to log in. It eases backing up and managing your Yahoo emails with a few clicks. Let us explore how to generate a Yahoo Mail App Password.
The reason why Yahoo blocks access to your Yahoo mail account from a third-party app is to save your account from any vulnerability. In order to get Yahoo mail third-party access, follow the steps shown below:
Step 1: First, sign in to your Yahoo account. Then go to the Profile Name in the top-right corner and click Account info.
Step 2: On the Yahoo account settings page, click the Account security tab in the left pane. You will be prompted to enter your email ID and password again.
Step 3: You can now see the Account security screen. Scroll down to see the Generate app password option, and then click it.
Step 4: The App passwords dialog box will appear. Here you need to select an app by clicking the dropdown arrow shown next to the Select your app option.
Note: In case you do not find the app for which you need the password, select the Other app option. Then you can simply enter the customer name for which you want access to your Yahoo mail account. If you are using a 3rd party software, you need to enter the company name that is providing the software.
