1. How to check disk space using command prompt?

This is one of the easiest methods to analyze your hard disk. You just have to type simple steps. The line is as follows:

wmic logicaldisk get size, freespace, caption

While running this function you can see that all your drive’s data is easily available. There are 3 columns showing different things, like in first column Caption is written in which C drive is shown, then there is the second column which reads Freespace and is showing some data like 84466987008 and the third column is showing Size which reads 106780684288.

Now if there are more drives then it shows other drives too like D, E etc. The above command is very straightforward and can, therefore, be tried by anyone and can make anyone a pro at analyzing hard drive space.

2. Inbuilt Disk Space Visualizer in Windows 10

Every once in a while we need to remove our junk data which can only be done by taking the help of some decent hard disk space analyzer. With the newer version of the Windows, we don’t need third party software. Microsoft has provided us with a built-in space analyzer in Windows 10. Now go through the following steps to see it:

  1. Click on Start button and then go to Settings.
  2. When Setting is opened, then click on System.
  3. On the left-hand side there are several options, choose Storage from it and then select This PC(C:) or whatever drive you want to select.
  4. When you select the desired drive, you will see various options as it will start analyzing and fragmenting the storage like System and reserved, Apps and games, Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, Mails etc.

It is not as powerful as other disk space analyzers but is quite helpful if you are going through a little less data. You can check all the necessary data which a normal person generally uses.

3. WinDirStat

WinDirStat is free open-source disk usage analyzer and cleanup software for Windows. This program can scan whole hard disk drive or local partitions showing the result in colorful graphical image for the used space. The program is very useful as it can check files that took the most space and also manually remove the data all from within the program. Hence it works perfectly as a hard disk space analyzer.

Sometimes it happens that while cleaning the data some of your important data gets deleted. At that time you can use 3rd party software called Windows Data Recovery which will recover all your data back and you don’t have to worry anymore.
