How to reduce PDF file size?

Postby larr_webr » Tue Jul 30, 2013 6:00 am

Can I reduce my PDF file size by using Adobe Reader? I have heard that it supports such a feature to reduce the size of a PDF file.
Please let me know the steps required for such action.
Thank you.

Sorry to say, but you can't reduce your PDF file size by using Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader is a freeware that only allows you to read or view the PDF documents, that's why it is called reader. To reduce the PDF file size Adobe Acrobat Pro mainly is required. Remember only a full version of Adobe Acrobat can help you reduce the size of your PDF file. If you are using a trial version, then you are not able to perform this action.

If a user has Adobe Acrobat Pro full version, then how can he/she reduce the PDF file size by using it?
Thank you.

If you have Adobe Acrobat Pro (not trial version), then follow the simple steps shown below:
1. Open your Adobe Acrobat Pro.
2. Now click on File tab > Open or press Ctrl+O to open the file that you want to reduce.
3. Once the file is opened, again click on File tab > point to Save as Other > and click on Reduced Size PDF.
4. Choose your preferred Adobe Reader version compatibility from the list of compatibility options.
5. Now click on OK.

Other than this, there is one more way to reduce to the size of PDF file by using Adobe Acrobat Pro, which is PDF Optimizer. PDF Optimizer helps users reduce the size of PDF file by removing removing embedded fonts, compressing images, and removing items from the file that are no longer needed. Just follow the simple steps shown below:
1. Open your Adobe Acrobat Pro.
2. Now click on File tab > Open or press Ctrl+O to open the file that you want to reduce.
3. Once the file is opened, again click on File tab > point to Save as Other > and click on Optimized PDF.
4. The PDF Optimizer window will appear. Adjust your settings according to requirement.
5. Now click on OK.
Hope the information would be helpful for PDF users.
