System Restore is a process that lets you revert your system to an old or previous point. This is one of the most salient features provided by Windows which helps you in the initial stages of the troubleshooting a major problem. Follow the below-mentioned methods to restore on Windows 10 and 8:

  1. Close all the running programs and open files.
  2. In Cortana search bar, type restore and click on the “Create a restore point” from the appeared result.
  3. Now, System properties tab will open and navigate to System protection Tab.
  4. On the System Protection tab, click on the System Restore
  5. Now, Click on the Next
  6. Select the Restore Point that you want to use, then click on the Next.
  7. Hot the Finish to restore your computer to a previous point.
  8. Avoid to interrupt the process and click on the Yes button as the confirmation to start the process.
  9. Wait while your Computer restarts.

Perform System Restore in Win 7 and Vista

Follow the below-mentioned process in case you are a Windows Vista or 7 users:

  1. Click on the Start then All Programs > Accessories > System Tools.
  2. Hit on the System Restore icon.
  3. Now click on the Next button on the Restore system files and settings window.
  4. select the restore point that you created prior to the problems arisen.
  5. Click on the Next button. The operating system will get shut down so try to close all the running applications and opening files. Now, click on the Finish button.
  6. Click Yes to the confirmation box.
  7. After the system restore, you will get notified that System Restore completed successfully.
  8. Click on the Close button and exit.

System Restore in Microsoft Windows XP

  1. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools.
  2. Hit the System Restore program icon.
  3. Choose to Restore my computer to an earlier time and then click on the Next button.
  4. Select the available restore point date from the calendar on the left.​
  5. Now, select a restore point from the list on the right.
  6. Click on the Next button.
  7. Now, Click on the Next button on the Confirm Restore Point Selection window.​
  8. The system will go for the restoration and after that, it will restart.

The above method will restore all the settings, driver properties, system files, and system configurations to the old and previous versions. It will not affect your data like images, videos, documents or any files rather your system files. This will be a good initial step to troubleshoot those problems which occurred after any update or installation.
