How to Import Contacts to Outlook from CSV

If you have the contacts in a web client, Excel spreadsheet or database, you can import them by following the steps given below:

  1. Launch MS Outlook on your system.
  2. On the File tab, click on Open > Import.
  3. Click on “Import from another program or file”, and then click on Next.
  4. In the Import a file dialog box, select the file type of your file that you want to import. Then, click on Next.
    Note: Comma Separated Values (Windows) aka CSV is the most common file that stores contacts. Or if you want to import the contacts (which were exported from Outlook to PST) from an Outlook data file, select Outlook Data File (.pst).
  5. Now click on Browse, select the file that you want to import, and then click on OK.
  6. Select the options given there (optional). Click on the Next.
  7. Under the Select destination folder, select a folder for the imported contacts and then click on Next.
  8. Finally, click Finish

Or if you want to export Outlook contacts into any other Webmail client applications, Excel spreadsheets or a database, the most common file format would be CSV (comma-separated value).

How to Export Contacts to CSV Format from Outlook

To export the contacts from Outlook to CSV file, you need to follow the below steps:

  1. Launch MS Outlook on your system.
  2. On the File tab, click on Options > Advanced > Export.
  3. In the Import and Export Wizard, click on “Export to a file” and then click on Next.
  4. In the Export to a file dialog box, select the file type of the file into which you want to export the data. Then click on Next.
  5. Now select the contact folder from the list which you want to export. Then click on Next.
  6. Now, click on Browse and select the destination folder. Type a new name for the file. Click on OK.
  7. Then, click on Next and then click on Finish.

This will copy all the contacts from the Outlook email client to the preferred file format. You can name that file and later use it as you want.
